Pace Volleyball Serves Past Queens College, 3-1

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Pace University volleyball team picked up its third-straight win on Tuesday night courtesy of a 3-1 triumph (25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-10) at Queens College. The non-conference victory moves the Setters to 15-15 this season, while they stand pat at 7-5 in the NE10.

It was another balanced effort for the Pace offense as six different Setters recorded at least six kills. Orchestrating the attack was the duo of freshman Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) and sophomore Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake), who combined to dish out 36 assists. As a team, the Blue and Gold notched 46 helpers—which is their second-highest total this season. The Setters' 54 kills in the match is also their second-best output this year.

Junior Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) registered a team-high 13 put-aways while classmate Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) racked up a season-best 11 kills. Benson made just one error on the night, tallying a .556 hitting percentage. Fontanet also chipped in 10 digs to pick up her 10th double-double of the season.

Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani), Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield), Colette Clarke (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck), and Elien Peeters (Herdersem, Belgium/Onze Lieve Vrouwecollege) all aided the Setters' attack.  Calimpong-Burke and Lecker each posted eight kills while Clarke and Peeters added totals of seven and six, respectively.

Calimpong-Burke also performed strong on the defensive side of the ball, totaling 12 digs. Sophomore libero Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) led Pace in that category with 20.

As a team, Pace piled up 11 service aces—including three each off the hands of Lecker and Vaiano.
