Mid-Week Preview: Pace Basketball Squads Set for Wednesday Night Doubleheader at AIC

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After the Pace University women's basketball team started the week off with a win over Nyack College on Monday night, both the women's and men's squads will be in action tomorrow night to wrap up mid-week competition for the Setters. The two teams look to improve on their conference records as they each play their third Northeast-10 Conference game of the season.

Following an 81-50 triumph over Nyack, the 5-1 Setters travel to American International College to take on the Yellow Jackets as the frontend of the Pace-AIC doubleheader on Wednesday night.

Monday's victory was the second straight in which Pace won by more than 30 points. Four Setters reached double-digits offensively, with Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) leading the charge with 16. Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining), Lauren Schetter (Beacon, NY/Beacon High School), and Kristina Olikhver (Moscow, Russia/Saint Andrew's) each broke the 10-point plateau in the win as well. The scoring attack stemmed from Pace's 20 assists on the night, a season-high mark.

Beyond shooting a season-best .467 from the field, the Blue and Gold were able to secure the victory with strong defensive play. The Setters recorded 18 steals against the Warriors, the most steals the team has had in a contest since 2009. Olikhver, Svoboda, and Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) combined for 10 of Pace's takeaways.

AIC will enter Wednesday's matchup with a record of 1-5 and an 0-3 mark in the NE10, currently in the midst of a four-game skid. The Setters, meanwhile, are seeking their first 3-0 start in the conference since the 2011-12 season. Pace is also looking for their first win against AIC since 2014. The Yellow Jackets won the most recent meeting last season in February, 67-56.

After defeating Post University over the weekend, the Blue and Gold look to make it two wins in a row when they take on AIC to close out Wednesday's doubleheader. The Setters are 2-4 this season and are 1-1 in the NE10.

Pace scored its second-highest point total this season in the 87-74 victory against Post on Sunday. Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) was the team's leading scorer for a third straight game with 16 points. The sophomore forward leads the Setters with 17.8 points per game and has reached double figures in all six games this season. Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) has also put up double-digit points in each contest this year, dropping 16 against the Eagles. Jacobs leads all freshmen in scoring in the NE10 with 17.0 points per game.

The Blue and Gold shot a season-best .467 from beyond the arc on Sunday, going 10-for-21 on three pointers. Jacobs led the team with three long balls, while three other Setters added two three-pointers each.

The AIC men's squad heads into the Wednesday night showdown at 3-2 in the season, sitting 0-2 against the NE10. While the Yellow Jackets have the lowest scoring offense in the conference this season with 62.2 points per game, they boast the top defense in the NE10, surrendering just 62.6 points per contest.

The Setters and Yellow Jackets have split their two seasonal meetings in each of the past two years. AIC was victorious in the most recent meeting, 72-64.
