Pace Men's Basketball Falls on the Road at Saint Rose, 74-64

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team was defeated in Northeast-10 competition for the first time this season on Tuesday night, dropping a 74-64 contest at The College of Saint Rose.

Inside the Numbers
*Sophomore Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) was the offensive catalyst for a second consecutive contest. The forward scored a season-high 26 points in 23 minutes of action. He finished 5-of-12 from the floor on the night, including sinking his lone shot attempt from beyond the arc and shooting a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line. He also added six rebounds and two blocks to his docket for the night.

*Joining Wejnert in double digits for points was Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran), who registered 11 points on a 3-for-9 shooting night. The freshman has now posted 11 or more points in each of the first five contests of his collegiate career. Jacobs added a season-high four rebounds, all on the defensive end.

*Dana Raysor (Willingboro, NJ/St. Patrick / Delaware State University) rounded out the top offensive performers for the Blue and Gold on the night, scoring 10. It was the second time this season Raysor reached double-digits for points scored.

*Jacobs and classmate Austin Gilbertson (Etters, PA/Trinity) each recorded two assists to lead the Setters. Jacobs currently leads the team in assists for the season with 17.

*Luke McLaughlin (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) led the Blue and Gold with seven rebounds on the night. The junior forward is now tied with Wejnert for the team lead with 33 boards on the year.

*As a team, Pace shot 30 percent from the floor, but were 11-for-27 in the second half for a 40 percent shooting mark. The Setters were 3-16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc, and shot 93.5 percent from the charity stripe, including a perfect 20-for-20 in the second half.

How it Happened
The Setters faced their toughest defensive challenge of the year, as the Golden Knights entered play ranked third in the conference in fewest points allowed. Saint Rose lived up to their reputation, limiting the Setters' explosive offense to their fewest points this season. The Golden Knights jumped ahead on the first two baskets of the night, and never trailed for the remainder of the contest.

A 5-0 run by Raysor midway through the first half cut the Saint Rose lead to five, but the Setters were unable to bring the score any closer than that. Saint Rose finished half outscoring Pace by an 18-12 margin to take a 32-21 lead into halftime.

The Blue and Gold were unable to make serious dents into the lead in the second, as Saint Rose was able to effectively respond to each Setter basket with one of their own. Pace was able to capitalize on Saint Rose foul troubles in the half by nailing all 20 of their free throw attempts, including 13 off the hands of Wejnert, but the Setters were unable to pull any closer than a seven-point deficit. The Golden Knight defense snuffed out the Setter comeback effort, as Saint Rose held on to win by the 74-64 final.

Up Next
The Setters return home following the Thanksgiving holiday for a Sunday afternoon contest with Post University. Tipoff for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
