Pace Men's Basketball Erupts for 102 Points in Win over Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing at home for the first time this season, the Pace University men's basketball team exploded for 102 points in a six-point victory over Adelphi University on Wednesday night. The win puts the Setters at 1-0 inside the Northeast-10 Conference this season.

Inside the Numbers
*The Setters shot 56 percent from the floor en route to racking up their their highest point total since December of 2008. It was almost an even split for the Pace offense as they poured in 52 in the opening half and a 50-spot in the second.

*The Blue and Gold had six players in double figures, including a combined 43 from Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) and Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran). Poleon led the way with a 22-point effort, while Jacobs followed with 21. Jacobs also pitched in four assists and three steals.

*Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) led Pace with nine rebounds, to go along with 15 points. Kevin Smith (New Haven, CT/South Kent) (13 points), Dana Raysor (Willingboro, NJ/St. Patrick / Delaware State University) (11 points) and Austin Gilbertson (Etters, PA/Trinity) (10 points) were the final three Setters in double figures.

*Pace finished the night 20-for-24 from the free-throw line, including 15-of-17 in the second half. The Setters shot nearly 60 percent (34-of-59) from inside the three-point arc.

How it Happened
Fast-paced action was the theme of the night, with both teams putting together strong offensive showings. The first half saw neither team able to get more than six points of separation from each other. Pace held most of the momentum, seizing edges of 33-27 and 41-35. In fact, Pace nabbed six-point leads on four different occasions, but were never able to shake the Panthers. Adelphi closed out the half on a small 14-11 spurt to make the deficit 52-49 at the break.

The back and forth play continued into the second half with both teams staying sharp on the attack. Buckets from Poleon and Jacobs capped off an 8-1 stretch for the Setters to provide a 73-69 lead. Pace's lead grew to 85-78 following consecutive layups from the freshman trio of Jacobs, Gilbertson and Smith.

Another quick 7-1 run earned the Blue and Gold their largest lead of the game at 96-85. Although Adelphi hung tough until the bitter end, the Setters closed the game out from the free-throw line, making their final six attempts.
