BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Pace University men's basketball team held a three-point lead on Post University with eight seconds on the clock, but after a turnaround Eagles' three-pointer forced overtime, the Setters fell 87-84 in extra time on Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport, Conn. Pace moves to 0-2 on the early season.
Inside the Numbers
For the second consecutive night, the Setters put four players in double figures with freshman
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, NY/Long Island Lutheran) leading the way. Jacobs finished with a team-high 21 points, while
Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, NJ/Southern Regional) (15),
Kevin Seymour (Bronx, NY/Blair Academy / Central Connecticut State University) (13) and
Greg Poleon (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln / Coffeyville CC) also put forth strong efforts.
Jacobs also tallied a team-high five assists for the second straight game. A night after registering his first-career double-double,
Luke McLaughlin (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) chipped in eight points and a team-best eight rebounds.
As a team, Pace put together 10 steals while forcing 20 Post turnovers. The Setters made 16-of-19 from the free-throw line.
How it Happened
With two Setters draped on top of him, Post senior guard Tyler Desrosiers heaved in a desperation three-pointer with one second on the clock to force overtime at 80-80. Trailing by one with 11 seconds in overtime, Pace had a chance to take the lead, but a contested layup from Jacobs was not meant to be with one second on the clock.

The Setters outrebounded Post, and forced 11 turnovers in the first half, resulting in a four-point lead for Pace at the break. The Blue and Gold rattled off a 13-0 run, beginning at the 7:34 mark, to turn a 29-25 deficit into a nine-point advantage with about three minutes left. A Wejnert lay-in put the lead back at nine with 45 seconds on the clock, but Post scored a quick five to head into the locker room down four.
The Setters stayed strong to begin the second 20, extending the edge back up to 11 mid-way through the half. A jumper from Poleon put the advantage at 65-54 with 10:30 on the clock.
Post chipped at the lead for the rest of regulation, cutting the edge to just two points on four occasions. The Blue and Gold held strong, however, as a tip-in from McLaughlin put Pace up six with under-five minutes to go, while a layup from Jacobs put them up four with under three to go.
Jacobs added two clutch free throws with eight seconds left to make the margin three points before Post's final possession.
