Pace Volleyball Splits a Pair of Non-Conference Matches at Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – Competing in a non-conference doubleheader for a second-straight weekend, the Pace University volleyball team split matches against Chestnut Hill College and Nyack College on Saturday. The Setters opened the afternoon with a 3-0 triumph (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) over the Griffins before falling by a 3-0 margin (25-14, 25-16, 25-23) to the hosts.

Match No. 1: Pace 3, Chestnut Hill 0
It was a balanced attack for the Setters in recording their third sweep of the season. Led by Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield)'s team-high 11 kills, the Blue and Gold had five players notch at least four put-aways. Lecker, who reached double-figure kills in a fourth-straight match, also tallied nine digs.

Junior Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) was all over the stat sheet versus Chestnut Hill, recording seven kills, 17 digs (team-high), three aces and two block assists. Senior Colette Clark put forth five kills while Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) and Elien Peeters (Herdersem, Belgium/Onze Lieve Vrouwecollege) each recorded four put-aways. Peeters also chipped in a squad-best six blocks.

Sophomore Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) and freshman Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) split the passing duties, combining for 31 assists. The Blue and Gold compiled eight blocks for a second-consecutive match, while also totaling eight service aces.

Match No. 2: Nyack 3, Pace 0
Lecker added a team-high four kills in the second contest, while also chipping in eight digs. Pivetti and Natalia Quinones each added three kills of their own.

Nidini and senior Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) both picked up a team-high 10 digs, while Nidini also dished out seven assists.

The Setters totaled eight more service aces in the second match.

The Setters will play one more road contest before returning home for six-straight matches inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. Pace heads to Adelphi University on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start.
