Pace Volleyball Goes on the Road to Defeat Saint Michael's, 3-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Highlighted by double-double efforts from Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina), the Pace University volleyball team earned a 3-1 win at Saint Michael's College on Friday evening. The Setters have now won six of their last seven matches, improving to 6-4 inside the Northeast-10 Conference.

After winning a tight opening set, 25-23, the Blue and Gold used dominant efforts in the second (25-14) and fourth frames (25-11) to ultimately come away with the road victory.

Lecker and Fontanet, who have combined for 15 double-doubles this season, led the way for a Pace offense that racked up 48 kills and hit .223 for the match. Fontanet finished the night with a team-high 15 kills to go along with 12 digs, while Lecker notched 10 put-aways and 13 pickups. Maria Snelling (Cleveland, OH/Gilmour Academy) supplemented the attack with a season-high nine kills.

The Setters' passing also played a key role in the win. Senior Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) and freshman Nicole Pivetti (Modena, Italy/Liceo Wiligelmo) orchestrated the attack, totaling 38 assists. As a whole, the Blue and Gold racked up their second-most assists in a match this season with 45.

Defensively, sophomore Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) was all over the floor. The NE10 Libero of the Week completed the contest with 24 digs—one shy of a season-best—to go along with three assists and a service ace.

Also on the defensive side of the ball, Pace had six different players record at least one block assist en route to recording 12 for the match. Sophomore Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) paved the way with three, in addition to seven kills and four digs.
