PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Competing for the first time this season, the Pace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Division I foes, Manhattan College and Saint Peter's University, on Saturday night inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. The women's squad was victorious in both meets, while the men put together a season-opening split.
Women's Results
The women's squad opened up the 2017-18 campaign with a 216-49 win over the Peacocks and a 192-93 triumph over the Jaspers. In addition to three relay wins, the Blue and Gold recorded 11 individual victories.
Freshman
Annabel Keppel-Palmer (Kent, England/Maidstone Grammar School) put together quite a Setter debut, notching four wins in her first collegiate meet. The rookie posted top times in the 200-back (2:13.24), the 200-fly (2:13.78), the 400-IM (4:42.93), while also being a part of a winning 200-medley relay team (1:55.44).
Keppel-Palmer's 400-IM mark is currently the top time in the Northeast-10 Conference, and her 200-fly time is second.
Fellow freshman
Joana Krause Massaguer (Premia de Mar, Spain/Institut Premia de Mar) and sophomore
Jana Ciric (Nis, Serbia/Gimnazija "Svetozar Markovic") followed suit with three wins each. Krause Massaguer was triumphant in the 100-back (1:01.75), and was part of winning relays in the 200-medley (1:55.44) and 400-free (3:45.25).
Ciric won the 100-free (56.54), while also joining in on the wins in the 200-medley (1:55.44) and 400-free relays (3:45.25).
Senior
Madison Kiefer (Wayland, MA/Wayland High School) put together a pair of distance wins for the Setters, nabbing triumphs in the 1000 (11:00.38) and 500-free (5:22.56) events.
Leigha Kosakowski (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem Central) was also a double-event winner. The freshman registered a winning mark of 24:92 in the 50-free, which is also the top time currently in the NE10. She was also part of the winning 400-free relay squad (3:45.25).
In diving action, Sophia Howard nabbed a pair of top marks in the one-meter and the three-meter events. The rookie posted winning scores of 216.05 and 215.40.
Classmate
Marta Hasny (Kedzierzyn-Kozle, POLAND/II Liceum Ogólnoksztalcace im. Mikolaja Kopernika) added to Pace's top times with a win in the 100-fly (1:01.59), while also being a member of the triumphant 400-free relay team (3:45.25).
Men's Results
Led by five individual wins and a second-place relay effort, the men's squad was victorious over Manhattan (162-112) while falling in a tight race to Saint Peters, 141-117.
It was another freshman leading the way on the men's side.
Filip Turecky (State College, PA/State College Area) was the lone two-event winner for the Blue and Gold, posting top marks in the 100-back (53.10) and 200-back (1:58.43). Turecky's time in the 100-back is currently tops in the NE10. He was also a part of a second-place 200-medley relay.
Junior
Andresious Cyprianos (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Christian Brothers College) was also a member of that 200-medley team, while snagging a victory in the 100-fly with a time of 53:53.
Pace's other individual wins of the night came from freshman
Joshua Lozano (Helotes, TX/O'Connor) and senior
Brian Sosa (Bogota, Colombia/La Salle Bogota 170). Lozano was first to the wall in the 1000-free with a mark of 10:12.13, which currently ranks fastest in the NE10.
Sosa registered the night's top time in the 200-fly, touching the wall in 2:02.38.
