PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's soccer team erupted for a season-high five goals on Friday night in a 5-1 triumph over Assumption College. The victory not only improves the Setters' record to 7-4-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, but also clinches a berth into their second consecutive NE10 Tournament.
In a fitting start to Homecoming Weekend on campus, the Blue and Gold put on an offensive show at Pace Stadium. Pace scored three goals in the first half before building a 5-0 lead by just the 52nd minute of the game.
Defensively, senior goalie
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) put together four saves—all in the second half--on the way to tallying her seventh win of the season.
The Blue and Gold opened the game's scoring in the 17
th minute, as freshman
Mackenzie Kurek (Goshen, NY/Goshen Central) scored her second goal of season off a perfectly served corner kick from senior
Drew Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, NY/Valley Central). Ribadeneyra registered her 16th career assist on the play.
Senior
Emma Sinanan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) added to Pace's lead in the 28
th minute, heading in a feed from Kurek for her fifth goal of the season.
Kurek capped off her stellar first half with another tally in the 43
rd minute. The rookie Setter rocketed in a shot from outside the box over the Assumption keeper. Fellow freshman
Gabby Lucas (Beacon, NY/Beacon) notched her team-best fourth assist on the tally.
After taking a 3-0 edge into the break, it didn't take long for the Blue and Gold to add even more to their lead in the second half. Just two minutes into the frame,
Robyn Seward (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay East Fishkill) registered her first goal of the season to put Pace up 4-0. Junior
Victoria Kealy (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) posted the assist on the play.
Speaking of Kealy, she would end up being the Setters' final goal scorer of the night in the 52
nd minute. Kealy knocked in her team-best sixth tally of the season. She now was picked up six points over her last five contests.
The Greyhounds, who were denied a single shot attempt until the 51
st minute, avoided the shutout with a goal from Kallie Villemaire in the 65
th minute.
