Pace Volleyball Records Saturday Sweep of Le Moyne

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing a second home match in the span of less than 24 hours, the Pace University volleyball team closed its week with a 3-0 win against Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon. The Setters improve to 8-13 on the season with a 2-4 mark against the Northeast-10 Conference.

Inside the Numbers
Senior Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) made her presence known for the second time this weekend, registering her fifth double-double of the year by picking up 12 digs and recording 13 of Pace's 38 kills. Senior Colette Clarke (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) and junior Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) each had six kills of their own for the Blue and Gold attack.

Sophomore Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) continued where she left off last night in contributing to the offense on the assists front, recording 23 of Pace's 33 on the match.

Four Setters reached double digits in digs for the day. In addition to Lecker, Nidini (13), Fontanet (12), and senior Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) (11) made numerous plays to limit Le Moyne's scoring.

Fontanet, Kain, and sophomore Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) each had a service ace in the match. Fontanet also recorded the Setters' lone solo block on the day.

Set 1: Pace 25, Le Moyne 23
In what became a recurring trend for the entirety of the match, the Setters found themselves in a hole early in the set before clawing their way back. The Dolphins jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Pace was able to recollect themselves off a timeout and mount a series of runs that tied the game up at 9-9. The score would be tied on three more separate occasions in the set, but the Setters were able to break a 19-19 stalemate and eventually win the opener. Lecker led the Pace attack with six kills in the set, while Nidini recorded seven digs and seven assists for the Blue and Gold.

Set 2: Pace 25, Le Moyne 20
The Dolphins opened up the second set with a 4-0 run, but Pace was able to battle back once again to even the score at 6-6. The teams traded the lead multiple times before Pace was able to earn a 13-12 edge that they never surrendered. Le Moyne managed to pull within a single point on four separate occasions in the latter half of the set, but the Blue and Gold were able to keep the Dolphins at bay before ultimately putting the set away.

The Setters attack was led by Nidini and Fontanet, who each recorded three kills. Nidini also led the team in the set with six assists, while the defensive front was led by six digs from Lecker. Three other Setters—Nidini, Fontanet, and Vaiano—registered four digs in the second frame.

Set 3: Pace 25, Le Moyne 17
The final set opened with Le Moyne scoring the first two points, but with the Setters determined to avoid having to battle back from another large deficit, Pace responded with a run of their own. Outscoring the Dolphins 10-1 after Le Moyne's opening serves, the Blue and Gold sported a large enough lead to hold off an opposing comeback and pick up the sweep. Lecker racked up another five kills, leading the Setters in the final frame. Fontanet led the way with five digs, while Nidini picked up 10 of Pace's 11 assists in the set.
