RINDGE, N.H. – In a second consecutive defense-dominated matchup for the sixth-ranked Pace University field hockey team, the Setters had their six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon courtesy of a 1-0 defeat at Franklin Pierce University. The loss drops the Blue and Gold to 12-2 overall this season, with their NE10 record sitting at 6-2.
The Ravens got on the board early, shooting a ball past Pace's senior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) in the third minute. Alvarez and the rest of the Setters backline were able to turn away Franklin Pierce for the remainder of the game. Despite recording 13 penalty corners, all in the second half, Pace was unable to find the equalizer.
The Blue and Gold were only able to record three shots on goal against a tough Franklin Pierce defense that sits third in the conference with a 1.19 goals-allowed average. Junior
Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin), the hero earlier this week against Southern New Hampshire, recorded one of the shots on goal with her team-leading three shots, while classmates
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) and
Rachel Platko (Hanover Township, PA/Holy Redeemer) tallied the other shots on net. Junior
Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) also had three shots in the contest.
Outside of the goal surrendered, Alvarez continued her solid season in net, recording two saves to keep the Setters' deficit at one. She has allowed just two goals in her last 490 minutes of play. Her goals-against average for the season is an NE10 best 0.49, while her save percentage tops the conference at .892.
