WORCESTER, Mass. – Following nearly 30 minutes of scoreless action, junior
Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) rocketed in her fourth game-winning goal of the season at 2:22 of overtime to give the eighth-ranked Pace University field hockey team a 3-2 win over Assumption College on Wednesday.
The win moves the Setters to 13-2 overall this season, including a 7-2 mark inside the Northeast-10 Conference.
After earning a penalty corner in the early stages of extra time, the Setters strung together a pair of passes before Rose finally delivered the clinching tally.
Rachel Platko (Hanover Township, PA/Holy Redeemer) initiated the corner, finding classmate
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township), who earned the assist.
Rose, who also assisted the Setters' first goal, joins
Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and
Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) for the team lead in goals this season with five. It was Predmore's third helper of the season.
The Setters took a pair of leads during regulation, but Assumption fought back each time before the contest eventually went to extra time.
Freshman
Lieke van Nieuwenhuizen (Utrecht, Netherlands/St. Bonifatius) notched her third goal of the season to lift Pace to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.Â
Assumption quickly answered four minutes later off a tally from Alexa Mulvihill. Kolby Burger picked up the assist on the first equalizer.
Junior
Samantha Gray (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) provided Pace a 2-1 halftime lead courtesy of a tally in the 25
th minute. Kasparian registered the assist on Gray's fourth goal of the season.
The Greyhounds battled back once again early in the second half, evening the score off a Shannon Quinlan goal at 42:26.
Senior goalie
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) posted five saves en route to earning her 13
th triumph in net. Sanchez Alvarez, who has played every single minute this season, entered the day as the nation's leader in both goals-against average and save percentage.
