PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by a game-winning goal in the 75
th minute by junior
Victoria Kealy (Nutley, NJ/Nutley), the Pace University women's soccer team tallied a 1-0 triumph over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday night at Pace Stadium. The win moves the Setters to 6-3-1 inside the Northeast-10 Conference this season.
Kealy headed home her team-leading fifth tally of the season off a beautifully played cross from senior
Ariel Almodovar (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) late in the second half. Almodovar, who is now tied with freshman
Gabby Lucas (Beacon, NY/Beacon) for the team lead in assists (three), made a quick move down the right sideline before lofting a perfect ball in the middle of the box.
In another defense-oriented win for the Blue and Gold, it was goalkeeper
Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) recording her fourth clean sheet of the season. The senior--who hasn't allowed a goal at home since Sept. 13—made four saves in net, including a crucial diving stop with less than three minutes left in regulation.
Pascoal currently leads the NE10 in both least goals allowed (seven) and save percentage (.885) this season.
The Setters' defense in front of Pascoal also put forth a strong effort on Saturday night. Pace held Franklin Pierce to only four shots on net, and just a pair of first-half corners.
