PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) scored a career-high 23 points and shot 60 percent from the field in the Pace University's women's basketball team's 69-66 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- Senior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) pushed the Setters out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter after she finished strong in the paint and then drained two free throws at the 8:04 mark.
- Later in the quarter, graduate student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) assisted Monteleone for a layup to give the Setters a double-digit lead at 17-7 with 3:19 remaining in the first period.
- The Setters scored their last basket of the quarter at the 56-second mark when junior
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) assisted Dodge for a finish inside.
- The Skyhawks closed the period with a layup of their own by Kelsey Shaw right before the buzzer to make it 23-13 in favor of the Setters going into the second period.
2ND QUARTER
- Freshman
Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) drove to the basket strong and finished through contact, leading to a three-point play at the 8:38 mark to push the Setter lead to 28-16.
- DelliSanti scored inside again less than a minute later to make it 30-18, but the Skyhawks became aggressive and went on a 7-0 run to bring them within five after Elizabeth Grip split two free throws at the 4:31 mark.
- In the last minute of the first half, sophomore
Chelsea Schultz (Commack, NY/Commack) scored in the paint, and fellow sophomore
Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining) connected on two free throws before Stonehill's Samantha Hyslip made 1-of-2 from the line, leading to a 39-27 Pace advantage heading into the locker room.
HALFTIME STATS
- Monteleone led the Setters with 11 points at the break.
- Hyslip added nine points for the Skyhawks in the first half.
3RD QUARTER
- The Skyhawks opened the second half with a 7-0 run, making it a 39-34 game with 6:40 on the clock in the third.
- The Setters answered right back, scoring nine straight points, capped off with a triple by Monteleone at the 3:02 mark, pushing the Setters' lead to 48-34.
- Late in the third, senior
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) finished a layup, but Stonehill's Maty Diabate knocked down a jumper with seven seconds left to make it a 50-40 Setter advantage heading into the final frame.
4TH QUARTER
- The Skyhawks did not give up, as they opened the fourth period on a 10-3 run to make it 53-50 with 6:23 left to go.
- Stonehill came within two points with 30 seconds remaining as Courtney Walsh drained a three, but Rosalbo got fouled and drained two free throws for a 67-63 advantage.
- The Skyhawks continued to try and fight back, as Hyslip drained another three to bring Stonehill within a point with 8.6 showing on the clock, but it was not enough as DelliSanti knocked down two free throws with seven seconds to go in regulation to help the Setters hang on for the three-point win..
SETTER STATS
- Monteleone led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor.
- DelliSanti scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists in the win.
- Rosalbo scored 10 points and added seven rebounds along with four assists.
- Dodge scored nine points and registered a game-best nine rebounds and three blocks.
SKYHAWK LEADERS
- Hyslip tallied 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals for Stonehill in defeat.
- Shaw finished with 11 points, five boards and four assists.
- Walsh recorded eight points, four assists and three steals.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters will travel to Waltham, Mass. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, where they will match up with No. 15 Bentley University in the Dana Athletic Center. The NE10 contest is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
