PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing its second nationally-ranked opponent in as many games, the Pace University field hockey team dropped a non-conference matchup to No. 7 Adelphi University, 2-0, Wednesday evening at Peter X. Finnerty Field. Pace and Adelphi will compete in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Garden City, N.Y. later this season on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adelphi took advantage of an early penalty corner opportunity in the ninth minute, and converted when Jamie Ahrens fired the ball into the back of the cage from the top left corner of the circle. Ahrens was set up with an open shot thanks to assists from Rachel Colvin and Elissa Frein.
- Just two minutes later, Charlotte Smith doubled the Panthers' lead with a strong shot from the left side of the cage that got past the keeper.
PACE LEADERS

Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin),
Rachel Platko (Hanover Township, PA/Holy Redeemer) and
Samantha Gray (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields), and freshman
Rachel Beam (Red Hook, NY/Stissing Mountain) each fired off a shot in the game.
- Gray and Platko each recorded a shot on goal.
- Despite falling to 1-1 on Wednesday, junior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) made a solid six stops.

- Ahrens and Smith recorded the goals for the Panthers on Wednesday.
- Colvin and Frein tallied the assists on the first goal.
- Frein attempted six shots, putting five on target.
- Goalkeeper Amanda Gargiulo improves to 1-1 and made two saves.

NE-10 PLAY BEGINS SATURDAY
- Pace will take to the road for the first time in 2016 on Saturday, Sept. 10, when the Setters visit Southern New Hampshire University in their Northeast-10 Conference opener. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
- Pace returns home the following Saturday to host Saint Anselm College at Finnerty Field.
