MANCHESTER, N.H. – In a thrilling double-overtime battle, freshman
Rachel Beam (Red Hook, NY/Stissing Mountain) blasted in the game-winning goal to push the Pace University field hockey team past Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University, Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SNHU outshot the Setters, 15-11, in the game, but the Setters' stellar defense shutout the Penmen.
- The Setters continued their great defensive effort in the final overtime, as the Penmen had five opportunities compared to the Setters' one before Beam netted the goal at 94:15.
PACE LEADERS
- Beam's game-winner was her first goal as a Setter.
- Four Setters, sophomores
Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac),
Samantha Gray (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields),
Rachel Platko (Hanover Township, PA/Holy Redeemer) and freshman Beam each recorded a shot on goal. Sophomore
Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) fired off three of her own.
- Junior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) made an impressive eight stops for her second shutout of the year.

- Laura van der Doorn attempted six shots, putting three on target.
- Goalkeeper Alexis Soucy made six saves but falls to 1-2.

NE-10 PLAY CONTINUES SATURDAY
- Pace returns home Saturday, Sept. 17, to host Saint Anselm College at Peter X. Finnerty Field at 1 p.m.
- Pace will take to the road for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when the Setters visit Saint Thomas Aquinas College. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
