PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) deflected a shot by sophomore
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) up and over the keeper to give the Pace University field hockey team the sudden victory in overtime, 1-0, over No. 8 Bloomsburg University in Pace's season opener on Saturday at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bloomsburg went woman-down 2:30 into the overtime period after Ali McKay was given a yellow card.
- Pace took advantage of the 7-on-6 opportunity, drawing a penalty corner just over a minute later.
- Sophomore
Samantha Gray (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) sent the penalty corner in to Predmore, who fired from the top of the circle right at Kasparian.
- Kasparian got her stick up and deflected the shot over Bloomsburg goalkeeper Lindsay Cassel's head, allowing it to bounce and roll into the cage for the sudden-victory win.
CLUTCH IN HOME OPENERS
- In Pace's 2015 home opener on Sept. 16, 2015, the Setters' first-ever game at Finnerty Field, they defeated then No. 5-ranked LIU Post, 2-1, in double overtime on
Margaret Maclean (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial)'s game-winning goal.
PACE LEADERS
- Junior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) was spectacular in front of the cage, stopping a game-high seven shots without allowing a goal to improve to 1-0 and earn her first shutout of 2016.
- Kasparian scored her first and Pace's first goal of the 2016 campaign.
-
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) tallied the team's only assist.
- Sophomore
Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) led the Setters with three shots, two of which went on goal.
BLOOMSBURG STATS
- Sam Peters led the Huskies with four shots, all of which went on target.
- Cassel made five saves and allowed one goal in 73:52 between the pipes.

- NOTE: Bloomsburg defeated Adelphi, 5-1, Friday afternoon in Garden City, N.Y.
