Pace Volleyball Rolls to Sweep of Dominican

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team had its best offensive night of the season, hitting an impressive .309 en route to a 3-0 shutout of Dominican College Thursday evening at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

BENSON LEADS THE WAY
- Sophomore Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) led the Setters with 11 kills.
- She hit an incredible .556 on the evening, her second best percentage of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pace fell behind in the first set, and trailed, 18-14, late in the game.
- The Setters quickly rolled off four-straight points to tie the match, and took over with a 20-19 lead.
- They eventually scored the final three points of the set to claim a 1-0 lead in the match.
- The Chargers grabbed the first point of the second game, but the Setters scored the next eight to pull away.
- Dominican ended the run with two-straight points, but the Setters flipped the switch and went on a 13-point run to take a 21-3 advantage, eventually picking up the 25-6 win.
- The third frame was tied at 7-7 early on, but a four-point run for the Setters separated them from their guests.
- Pace closed out the match by taking the final six points for a 25-14 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Benson's 11 kills and .556 hitting percentage led the entire floor for the night.
- Junior Sydney Lecker (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) was right behind with eight kills, adding 12 digs on the evening.
- Freshman Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) provided 31 assists in the win.
- Freshman Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) hit .385 with seven kills and a block.
- Freshman Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) led the team with 17 digs on the night.
- The Setters totaled 11 service aces on the night, led by sophomore Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina)'s four. Vaiano, sophomore Meilyne Atienza (Houston, TX/DeBakey) and junior Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) each added two.

UP NEXT
- The Setters begin Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm College. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
