Pace Football Falls in Defensive Showdown at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A pair of dominant defensive performances on Saturday resulted in a 3-0 defeat for the Pace University football team in its Northeast-10 Conference matchup at American International College (AIC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- AIC place kicker Christopher Boteler succeeded on a 21-yard field goal attempt to cap off the Yellow Jackets' first drive, giving the home team at 3-0 lead with 9:23 left to play in the first quarter.
- At the end of an eight-play, 60-yard drive late in the fourth for the Setters, freshman Nick DiCairano (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph)'s 37-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
 
PACE STATISTICS
- Myles Martin (Neptune, NJ/Neptune/Wagner College ), Olatayo Ishola (Irvington, NJ/Sayreville/Lackawanna College), David Grant (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and Matthew Corrie (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) all registered a team-high eight tackles.
- The Setters recorded six total sacks, including two by Ishola. Matthew Ferrara (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill), Marc Arboleda (Levittown, NY/MacArthur) and Corrie each tallied one, while Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Brandon Harrison (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) combined for a sack.
- Ishola also added three tackles for loss, totaling 14 yards.
- Chukwuemka Njoku-Obi picked up his first interception of the season, returning it for 26 yards.
- Michael Scotman (White Plains, NY/White Plains) led Pace on the ground with 75 yards rushing.
 
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- Willie Brown IV led the Yellow Jackets with 82 yards on the ground.
- Ju'an Williams caught six passes for a game-high 75 yards.
- Jerrod Shelby led all players with 14 total tackles on the afternoon.
- Omari Manhertz led AIC with 2.5 sacks in the game, while Witche Exilhomme tallied 1.5 sacks.
- Devonte Dillion and Cyriacus Ibezim each had an interception, while Anthony Appleton recovered a fumble.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters return home to take on the University of New Haven on Saturday, Sept. 24, in another Northeast-10 Conference showdown.
- A Pace Stadium Cup, sponsored by Coca Cola, will be distributed to the first 500 fans in attendance at Pace Stadium on Saturday.
- Saturday will also be the annual Coach to Cure MD game to raise awareness and funds for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
