NYACK, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team wrapped up a nine-game road stand with its first single match of the season, defeating Nyack College, 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-21), Tuesday evening at Nyack's Bowman Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite a .250 hitting percentage, the Setters needed 27 points to take the first set of the night.
- Pace once again hit .250 in the second frame, but forced the Warriors into 10 errors and a -.029 clip for a 25-19 win.
- The Setters closed the match out with a 25-21 victory in the final game after holding the Warriors down to a .000 hitting percentage.
FONTANET LEADS THE WAY
- Sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) threw down a match-high 12 kills and led all scorers by hitting at a .357 clip.
- Fontanet completed her fourth double-double with 10 digs.
- Freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) totaled 33 assists, nearly tripling the next highest total in the match.
- Sophomore
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) totaled four blocks in the match, while freshman
Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) blocked three.
- Senior
Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, FL/Miami Palmetto/Palm Beach State College) led the team with 13 digs, while freshman
Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) picked up 11.

- Pace: 7-2
- Nyack: 1-7
UP NEXT
- Pace will play its home opener on Friday, Sept. 16, when they host Mercy College at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
- The Setters play again at home on Saturday, Sept. 17, when West Chester University comes to Pleasantville for a 12 p.m. match.
