PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball team shut out Mercy College in its first home opener at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Friday, 3-0. Sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) posted a double-double, finishing with 13 kills and 15 digs in the win over the Mavericks.

Pace 3, Mercy 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pace took the lead early in the first game, scoring the first five points. The Setters led by as many as 11 points halfway through the first set at 14-3. The Mavericks scored the next four points, but could not keep up the momentum, as Pace went on a 4-0 run to close out the opening frame.
- Mercy scored the first point in the second game after an attacking error by Pace. The Setters and Mavericks went point for point for the next couple of serves before Pace scored six straight points for 9-3 advantage.
- Mercy fought back and took a 13-11 lead. After tying it at 14-14, the Setters netted 11 consecutive points to claim the second game.
- The final set went back and forth early on before Pace went on a run to take an 18-8 lead. The energy from the crowd and home-court advantage helped the Setters finish strong and take win, 25-13.

- Pace out hit Mercy with a .245 hitting percentage compared to Mercy's .009.

Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) registered finished with 13 kills and 15 digs, and hit .545.

Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) dished out 33 assists and added 8 digs.

Danielle Vaiano (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony's) contributed 18 digs and three assists.

Tatjana Calimpong-Burke (Waianae, HI/Iolani) had four kills and two blocks in the match.
- Senior
Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, FL/Miami Palmetto/Palm Beach State College) served up a single ace and added 15 digs in the win.
- Freshman
Maria Snelling (University Heights, OH/Gilmour Academy) threw down six kills and contributed a team-high three blocks.
