MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Pace University football team's special teams unit blocked three kicks Thursday evening in the Setters' 2016 season opener at Millersville University, but the Setters dropped their first contest of the year, 28-7, to the Marauders.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- -Millersville picked up 13 points in the opening quarter on a touchdown pass from J.J. Paige to Kevin Wiggins and a pick-six by Jaleel Robinson.
- -Pace's Jasheem Banks (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) blocked extra point after the Marauders' first touchdown.
- -Isaac Esson jumped in front of a 51-yard field goal attempt late in the first
- -Zach Downey (Sandown, NH/Timberlane) jumped the count and knocked down a 44-yard field goal try with 5:31 left in the third.
- -Millersville tacked on two late touchdowns to make it 28-0.
- -Jhalen Bien-Aime (Dorchester, MA/Bridgton Academy) took a handoff to the right side and found daylight for a 31-yard touchdown run with under three minutes to play.
PACE STATISTICS
- -Jason Habash (San Jose, CA/Leland) passed for 163 yards and rushed for five more.
- -Bien-Aime totaled 57 yards on seven carries, including a 31-yard touchdown in the fourth.
- -Bien-Aime also returned three kickoffs for 61 yards, and two punts for 54 yards.
- -Nick DeVere (Novato, CA/Marin Catholic) grabbed five passes for 45 yards.
- -Jah'Sheem Martin (Freeport, NY/Freeport) led Pace with eight tackles, while Matthew Corrie (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) tallied seven.
- -Martin and Gavin Maher (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) combined for a sack in the game.
- -Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) made five tackles, including 2.5 for loss of yards.
MILLERSVILLE
- -Quarterback J.J. Paige passed for 247 yards and two scores.
- -Tailback Phil Overton rushed for 64 yards on 16 carries.
- -Wide receiver Kevin Wiggins went for 101 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.
- -Kendall Marks led the Marauders with seven tackles, including 1.5 for loss of yards.
WHAT'S NEXT?
- -The Setters return to Pleasantville for their home opener under the lights of Pace Stadium on Friday, Sept. 9. They will take on defending Northeast-10 Conference Champion, and No. 21-ranked Assumption College at 7 p.m.
