ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Anthony Gadaleta (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) totaled six points on Saturday, including five in the first half, to help lead the Pace University men's lacrosse team to an 11-8 victory over the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sullivan Field. Pace improves to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in NE-10 games, while Saint Rose falls to 3-11 and 1-8.
Gadaleta scored four goals and assisted two more to total six on the evening. He scored the first goal of the game to give the Setters an early lead, but Saint Rose fired back with a goal from Evan Doherty to tie it up. Sophomore
Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and Gadaleta then scored back-to-back to put Pace up, 3-1. Saint Rose responded with three straight goals to take the lead, but the Setters took it back with goals from junior
Peter Sharp (Airmont, NY/Suffern), Gadaleta and senior
Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
Doherty opened the third quarter with a goal, but Gadaleta scored another just a couple minutes later to make it a 7-5 game. Nicolas Johnson scored for the Golden Knights just seven seconds after Gadaleta's goal to make it a one-goal game. Brennan then scored just 48 seconds after that, and sophomore
John Oteri (Andover, MA/Andover) added another to take a 9-6 lead. Doherty scored once again, but Brennan scored twice in a row to go up by four. Mike Balla scored the final goal of the game for Saint Rose, but it was not enough to mount a comeback, as the Setters left Albany with a three-goal victory.
Brennan tallied five points on four goals and an assist, trailing just Gadaleta's six points with five of his own. He also scooped up four ground balls. Junior
Jeremy Wiley (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) had game-highs with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Junior
Brandon Donnellan (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Doherty scored four times to lead Saint Rose on Saturday. Balla scored twice and assisted one more for a three-point game. Matt Graham added two assists and a goal for a three-point game of his own.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) improved to 8-5 on the year after making 11 stops in the win. Joe Shapiro fell to 3-3 after giving up six goals in the first half for Saint Rose on Saturday.
The Setters will look to build upon Saturday's win on Wednesday, April 23, when they visit Bentley University for another NE-10 matchup. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
