WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Pace University women's basketball team lost to the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at the Charger Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon by a score of 80-41. The Setters fall to 11-16 overall and 6-13 in the NE-10 with the win. New Haven drops to 13-12 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
The Setters kept it close in the first quarter. Senior
Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) knocked down a jumper with 50 seconds remaining, leaving Pace down, 21-17, heading into the second period. The Setters struggled in the second quarter, as New Haven took a 36-23 lead heading into halftime. The trend continued in the second half as the Setters were outscored by double-digits in the third and fourth quarters.
Sher led the Setters with nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) scored eight points and pulled down four boards, while freshman
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led Pace with six rebounds and added four points.
New Haven's India Dotson finished with a game-best 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Lauren Hebert scored 15 points and reeled in a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23, when they host the Southern Connecticut State University for an NE-10 matchup and their final regular season game of the 2015-16 season at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday is also Senior Day for the Pace women's and men's basketball teams. The seniors for each team will be honored in a ceremony prior to the start of their respective games. It is also Gold Rush Night, and the first 400 fans in attendance will receive a special "Gold Rush" t-shirt.
