SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference road game at Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Friday afternoon by a score of 62-48.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- Junior
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) scored the first basket of the game with a layup to start off the Setters' offense.
- Later in the quarter, senior
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) knocked down a jumper at the 7:10 mark, and the Setters held a 4-2 advantage over STAC.
- The Setters struggled to score for the remainder of the quarter as freshman
Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) scored their last basket in the first at the 2:42 mark and the Setters headed into the second quarter with an 11-6 deficit.
2ND QUARTER
- The Setters opened up the second with a triple by sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) to cut away at STAC's lead and bring Pace within two.
- The Spartans then became very aggressive and went on a 19-9 run for the remainder of the second quarter, taking a 30-19 advantage into the break.
HALFTIME STATS
- Sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters with five points and two assists.
- STAC's Jenna Erickson led all scorers with 16 points and two steals.
3RD QUARTER
- The Setters came out in the third quarter with a new energy as graduate student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) started off their run with a three just over 20 seconds into the second half.
- Monteleone and Dodge each scored on layups, and the Setters opened the quarter with seven straight points to cut the Spartan lead to 30-26.
- STAC then brought up its energy and closed out the quarter with a three by Jenna Erickson to take a 49-37 lead heading into the final frame.
4TH QUARTER
- The Setters played the Spartans closely in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points to their 13, but it was not enough as STAC picked up the victory at home.
SETTER STATS
- Monteleone led the team with 14 points, four assists and two steals.
- Dodge registered 12 points, nine boards and four blocks.
- Rosalbo finished with six points, six rebounds and three assists.
SPARTAN LEADERS
- Erickson tallied a game-high 27 points, five assists and five steals.
- Adiya Henderson scored eight points and recorded a game-best 11 rebounds and six rejections.
RECORDS
- Pace: 8-6
- STAC: 10-3
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters take to the road and travel to Manchester, N.H. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when they visit Saint Anselm College for Northeast-10 Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
