Pace Women’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game against Molloy

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game against Molloy College by a score of 60-53 Friday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters and Lions had a matinee tip-off of 11 a.m., as Pace welcomed approximately 300 students from local elementary schools for Court to the Classroom Day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- Junior Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) followed a Molloy jumper with one of her own to begin the game with a 2-2 score.
- Molloy drained two threes to give the Lions an 8-4 advantage over the Setters with 7:22 left in the first quarter.
- Sophomore Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) made use of a missed three pointer by the Lions with a jumper to bring the Setters back within two with 31 seconds left in the period.
- Back-to-back offensive rebounds by Molloy allowed for another Lions basket to put them up, 15-11, to close out the quarter.
 
2ND QUARTER
- The Setters opened up the second stanza with a Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) basket, followed by a pair of free throws from senior Aurellia Cammock (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore / Iona College) to tie the game, 15-15.
- Kamala Thompson scored seven straight points for the Lions, putting Molloy ahead, 22-17, with 3:29 left in the first half.
- A missed layup from the Lions set up two points for freshman Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, NY/Commack) to cut the deficit to three.
- After 1:46 of scoreless play, Molloy added two to the board, taking a 24-19 advantage going into the half.
 
HALFTIME STATS
- Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led the Setters with eight points, while junior Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) grabbed six rebounds.
- Molloy was led by Thompson's 11 points through the first 20 minutes.
 
3RD QUARTER
- Molloy increased its lead by three to start the second half after capitalizing on a Pace foul.
- Consecutive layups by sophomore Heather Kiczek (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill), Monteleone and freshman Italee Brown-Smikle (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) brought the Setters back within three points at 29-26.
- Both teams stayed off the board for over 90 seconds before the Lions made use of a steal that resulted in three points.
- Monteleone hit a three-pointer with 4:22 left on the clock off an assist from Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) to cut the Molloy lead down to 32-29
- Senior Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) then hit a three, followed by a Monteleone layup less than 50 seconds later, bringing the Setters within one at 38-37.
-The Lions scored two more baskets to take a 42-37 lead into the final frame.
 
4TH QUARTER
- Oskam hit a three to open the fourth and get Pace back within a pair.
- The Setters took their first lead of the game off a layup by Kristin Dodge with 5:05 to play.
- The Lions answered back right away to regain the lead, 47-46.
- Molloy followed that up with a three-pointer to give the Lions a four-point advantage with just 3:08 to go.
- Two missed three-pointers by Pace and two made baskets by Molloy increased the Lions' lead to 54-46.
- A defensive rebound by Brown-Smikle set up a Dodge layup to end Molloy's seven-point run with 1:12 left in regulation.
- Monteleone picked up a steal with 23 second on the clock, and fed Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) for a layup, making it a 56-50 Molloy advantage.
- Monteleone then hit a three with less than 15 seconds left to cut the difference to five, 58-53.
- A pair of free throws by the Lions gave them a 60-53 advantage to close out the game.
 
SETTER STATS
- Monteleone's 14 points were a team-high. She shot 6-for-10 on the afternoon and added seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.
- Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) added 11 points, which included six rebounds and two assists.
- Rosalbo pulled down a career-high nine rebounds in Friday's contest.
 
MOLLOY LEADERS
- Thompson scored a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
- Symone Kelly pulled down a game-best 12 boards and added seven points, two steals, two assists and two blocks.
 
RECORDS
- Pace: 4-4
- Molloy: 7-2
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters travel to New Haven for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3:30 p.m.
- Pace then returns home for another NE10 game against Southern Connecticut State University at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
LGBTQ PRIDE HOOPS NIGHT WEDNESDAY EVENING
- Wednesday evening will the first-ever LGBTQ Pride Hoops Night at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
- The first 300 fans in attendance will receive special edition Pride Hoops Night t-shirts.
- A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit Center Lane LGBTQ Youth and Community Education Center, Westchester's only lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and community education center.
