WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) scored a career-high 26 points, and completed a double-double with 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes of play, leading the Pace University women's basketball team to a late 56-53 win over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play on the road at the Charger Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- The Chargers were up as many as six points just past the five-minute mark until the Setters got some life from a three by graduate-student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University), bringing the Setters back within three at 11-8 with 4:39 left in the first.
- New Haven's Khayla Trowell scored on a layup, but senior
Aurellia Cammock (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore / Iona College) finished strong in the paint to keep the Setters within three points.
- Pace scored the last points of the quarter on two free throws by senior
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) with 2:21 remaining in the first, cutting the deficit to 13-12 as the game headed into the second frame.
2ND QUARTER
- New Haven came out strong in the second quarter and had a seven-point lead over the Setters after a jumper by Allieyah Cubbage at the 2:22 mark for a 27-20 advantage.
- Pace then began to pound the ball inside and Dodge made an aggressive move, forcing a New Haven foul, rewarding her two free throws, which she made to cut the Chargers' lead to 27-22.
- Dodge later scored a layup, but the Alexandra Kerr also finished one off the glass for the Chargers to make it 29-24 with 55 seconds remaining until halftime.
- With 32 seconds left, sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) dished to Dodge for two, leaving Pace down just three heading into the locker room.
HALFTIME STATS
- Dodge scored 12 of Pace's 14 points in the second quarter, also securing six rebounds in just seven minutes on the court to lead the team at the break.
- Kerr went into halftime with six points, three rebounds and a steal to lead the Chargers.
3RD QUARTER
- Dodge started the third quarter where she left off and put back a miss to bring the Setters within one at 29-28.
- Kerr then made a three, but Dodge forced a foul and drained both shots from the line to keep Pace within two points.
- New Haven played aggressively throughout the third and took a seven-point lead with just 34 seconds remaining after Sianna Van Dyke drained a three for a 43-36 lead.
- To close the quarter, the Setters finished on another Monteleone-to-Dodge basket, getting back within five heading into the fourth.
4TH QUARTER
- At the 5:22 mark, sophomore Stephanie Svoboda made 1-of-2 free throws to get Pace back within two at 47-45.
- On the next possession, Kerr missed a three, Dodge pulled down the board, and freshman
Italee Brown-Smikle (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) assisted Oskam for a deep triple to give the Setters their first lead since early in the first quarter.
- Cubbage then connected on a free throw to tie the game, 48-48, but Dodge scored again in the post to take the lead right back.
- New Haven tied the game again after Van Dyke drained two from the charity stripe, but Monteleone pushed the Setters ahead by three after she made a layup and drained a free throw of her own with 2:07 left in regulation.
- The Chargers did not shy away, as Shannon Corridon came off the bench for the first time all afternoon, and hit a trey from the corner to tie the game at 53-53.
- With eight seconds left, Monteleone drove through the lane, drawing enough contact to send her to the line with a chance to take the lead back again
- Monteleone made the back end of her two chances, leaving the Chargers with a final opportunity to win the game.
- With two ticks left on the clock, Svoboda swiped the ball away from Cubbage, and was fouled with just a couple tenths of a second left remaining.
- Svoboda made both shots, helping Pace secure the three-point victory on the road for their first NE10 win of 2016-17.
SETTER STATS
- Dodge's 26 points and 12 boards led all players in Pace's big road win.
- Monteleone scored nine points and added three assists and three rebounds.
- Svoboda picked up a game-high three steals, including the game-clinching turnover in the final seconds.
CHARGER LEADERS
- Cubagge finished with a double-double, as she scored 13 points and pulled down 11 boards, while also adding two steals and two assists.
- Kerr dished out a game-best five assists to go along with 11 points and two rebounds.
- Micah Wormack tallied seven points, eights rebounds and tied the game-best four blocks with fellow teammate Katia Oge.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- Pace welcomes Southern Connecticut State University to the Goldstein Fitness Center on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. for an NE10 matchup.
