SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth game at Le Moyne College on Saturday by a score of 73-60 in the Setters' Northeast-10 Conference opener at Ted Grant Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Sophomore
Ryan Peterson (Wethersfield, CT/St. Thomas More)'s second three of the half tied things up at 8-8 at the 13:04 mark of the first half.
- Le Moyne later went on a 9-2 run to take a 22-12 advantage, and later a 25-15 lead.
- Trailing 26-18, the Setters used an 11-2 run to jump out to a 29-28 advantage
- Peterson and redshirt sophomore
Mike Demello (Mohegan Lake, NY/White Plains) hit back-to-back threes, and then graduate student
Christian White (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute / Syracuse University) sank a layup to get Pace on top.
- After Le Moyne took the lead again, White hit a mid-range jumper to put Pace back in the lead, 31-30, which the Setters took into halftime.
- The Setters drained six three-pointers in the opening frame.
SECOND HALF
- The even play continued early on in the second half, but a fast-break layup by Demello put the Setters on top, 40-37, with 14:22 to play.
- After the Dolphins tied the game at 42, Peterson hit yet another three to put the Setters back up by three.
- A pair of free throws by junior
Bryan Rivers (West Windsor, NJ/Peddie School) extended Pace's lead to five, but a three by Le Moyne's Isaiah Eisendorf got the Dolphins back within two.
- Tyree Chambers then hit a layup to tie the game for Le Moyne, but Demello responded with a jumper to take the lead back.
- Le Moyne scored six in a row to grab a 53-49 lead, but a pair of free throws by Demello made it a two-point game once again.
- Eisendorf made another jumper, and then Tanner Hyland hit a big three for Le Moyne off a fast break to make it a seven-point game.
- A 7-0 run for the Dolphins later in the half gave the home team a 68-56 advantage with just 1:39 to go.
- White hit another three 20 seconds later to make it a 69-60 game, but the Setters were unable to get any closer down the stretch, falling by 13.
SETTER STATS
- White led the Setters with a season-high 16 points that included four three-pointers.
- Peterson netted 12 points all thanks to four long balls of his own.
- Demello scored 14 points and tied with White for a team-high seven rebounds.
- Rivers dished out a game-best four assists and added eight points.
DOLPHIN LEADERS
- Eisendorf led all scorers with 20 points, and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
- Daniel Kaigler registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
- Russell Sangster led the team with three assists and scored seven points.
RECORDS
- Pace: 2-2 (0-1 NE-10)
- Le Moyne: 3-1 (1-1 NE-10)
UP NEXT
- The Setters return home to Pleasantville to host the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. following the Pace women's basketball team's matchup with the Golden Knights.
