PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Graduate student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, fueling the Pace University women's basketball team to a 73-61 victory over Dominican College Wednesday evening in the Setters' home opener at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
OSKAM'S BIG NIGHT
- Oskam tallied her first double-double of the season after leading all scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Setters' victory.
- Oskam also added a game-high five steals, leading the Setters as they forced 18 turnovers in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
- The two teams traded points in the first few minutes, leading to a 6-6 tie with 6:52 to play in the opening frame.
- Oskam hit a jumper to make it 8-6 for Pace, but Dominican's Shannon McGill came right down the court and drained a three to go up, 9-8.
- Junior
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) later sank a layup on a fast break initiated on a steal by junior
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) to take the lead back for the Setters, sparking a 6-0 run to go up, 14-9.
- Pace's lead reached 20-15 late in the period, but Dominican's Jacqueline Rywalt hit a three with 50 seconds left to get the Chargers within a pair heading into the second quarter.
2ND QUARTER
- The Chargers tied the game at 20 when Sara Ismail laid one in at the 9:19 mark.
- Pace then went on a 9-0 run, capped off with a three by Oskam, holding the Chargers off the board until Jasmine Gee made a free throw with 4:30 left in the half.
- Leading by six, the Setters' lead pushed back to nine when Rubin hit a long ball with 2:07 to go until the break, but Brittany Stone responded with a three of her own for Dominican for the final points of the half, sending the Setters into the locker room with a 32-26 advantage.
HALFTIME STATS
- Oskam led the Setters at the half with nine points, five rebounds and four of her five steals.
- Rywalt collected six first-half rebounds and tallied five points to keep the Chargers close.
3RD QUARTER
- A 6-0 run for the Setters early in the third helped them distance themselves from the Chargers with a 40-29 lead.
- Pace's lead shrunk to as little as six points late in the frame, but Pace closed out the third with the final five points of the period to claim a 49-38 advantage heading into the fourth.
4TH QUARTER
- The Setters came flying out of the gate in the fourth, scoring the first six points before their run was halted by a free throw for Dominican.
- Sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) immediately responded with a three, and then Rosalbo netted a layup the next time down the court to make it a 21-point game.
- The game slowed down as the period went on, and the Chargers slowly chipped away at the double-digit deficit, using free throws to get back within nine with 1:03 to play.
- The Setters settled down and made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 60 seconds, holding the Chargers to just two more points to hang on for a 12-point win.
SETTER STATS
- Rosalbo and Rubin were close behind Oskam with 12 points apiece.
- Monteleone tallied 11 points and matched senior
Aurellia Cammock (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore / Iona College) for a team-high three assists.
- Cammock came off the bench to score nine points and pulled down eight rebounds.
- Senior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) grabbed five boards and blocked three shots.
- The Setters shot 41.9 percent from the field (26-of-62) and 70.8 percent from the free throw line (17-of-24).
- Pace forced 18 turnovers, and only gave the ball away 11 times.
CHARGER LEADERS
- Gee and Lisa Bouffard matched for a team-high 11 points.
- Gee and Rywalt both grabbed eight rebounds in the game.
- Bouffard passed out a game-high four assists.

WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Setters hit the road this weekend to open Northeast-10 Conference play at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.
- Pace's matchup with the Dolphins will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 12 p.m.
