BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) led a late-game rally to help the Pace University women's basketball team defeat the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) by a score of 64-59 in the final game of the ECC/NE-10 Challenge, hosted by LIU Post at the Pratt Recreation Center. The Setters leave the tournament as the only team to go 2-0 over the weekend.
LATE RALLY
- The Setters trailed, 52-50, after NYIT's Nina Vukosavljevic hit a three with 7:20 to play.
- Back-to-back layups by senior
Aurellia Cammock (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore / Iona College) and junior
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) gave Pace a 54-52 lead.
- Later, Rosalbo fed Dodge for another two points to give the Setters a 56-53 edge, and a free throw 90 seconds later helped Pace stay on top, 57-55.
- With the game tied up at 57, Dodge sank a layup to take a 59-57 lead.
- Dodge came through once again the next time down the court, grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back in to take a four-point lead.
- Grad student
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) and junior
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) sank three free throws down the stretch to help Pace hang on for the five-point win.
HOW WE GOT THERE
1st Quarter
- Both teams played evenly early on, but the Bears rallied to take a 24-18 lead after scoring the final four points of the period.
2nd Quarter
- The Setters managed just seven points in the second frame, but held the Bears to eight, heading into the locker room with a 32-25 deficit.
3rd Quarter
- After going down 35-28, the Setters scored four straight on a pair of layups by Dodge to get back within three.
- NYIT ran back out to a 39-32 lead before the Setters ran off 9-of-11 points with four different scorers to tie the game at 41-41.
- Sophomore
Chelsea Schultz (Commack, NY/Commack) then gave Pace the lead on a big three, but Vukosavljevic responded with one of her own to tie it at 44-44 with 21 seconds left in the quarter.
- Dodge then finished a dish from sophomore
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) with just six seconds left to head into the fourth with a 46-44 advantage.
4th Quarter
- Both teams traded leads back-and-forth early on in the fourth, leaving NYIT up, 52-50.
- The Setters then went on their late rally, doubling up the Bears down the stretch, 14-7, to claim the five-point win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dodge led the floor with 18 points on the evening, adding seven rebounds for a solid all-around effort.
- Cammock came off the bench and tallied 11 points and six rebounds, including five on the offensive side of the court, in just 19 minutes.
- Oskam grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and provided a pair of assists.
- Rosalbo scored 11 points, swiped a team-high three steals and passed out two helpers.
- The Setters shot 25-of-53 (47.2 percent) from the field on Saturday, and outrebounded the Bears, 43-30.
NYIT LEADERS
- Shanice Allen led the Bears with 15 points on the evening.
- Margaret Knollmeyer grabbed a team-best five rebounds and scored eight points.
- Vukosavljevic scored 10 points and handed out a team-high five assists.

- The Setters return home to Pleasantville to host Dominican College on Wednesday, Nov. 16, in their home opener at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
