McGowan Lifts Pace Field Hockey to Double-Overtime Victory over Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Freshman Madison McGowan (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon, propelling the Pace University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the win, the Setters matched their 2015 season win total of six, with seven games still left in the regular season.
 
MCGOWAN MADE IT HAPPEN
- Saint Michael's Jackie Matthews scored the first goal of the game in the 28th minute to put the home team on top, 1-0.
-Sophomore Rachel Platko (Hanover Township, PA/Holy Redeemer) tapped in a goal off a rebound less than two minutes into the second half to tie the score at 1-1.
- McGowan later scored her first career goal off a feed across the cage from sophomore Jane Kasparian (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) in the 88th minute to lift the Setters over the Purple Knights in the second extra period.
 
PACE LEADERS
- McGowan scored her first career goal as a Setter to seal the win.
- Kasparian assisted McGowan for the game-winning goal.
- Platko scored a goal and registered two shots on net.
- Junior goalkeeper Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) had an outstanding showing in net with 16 saves.
- Sophomore Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) took five shots on the afternoon, three of which were on target.
- Junior Margaret Maclean (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) helped out in deep with a defensive save.
 
PURPLE KNIGHT STATS
- Jackie Matthews scored the only goal for Saint Michael's in the game.
- Abby Dusha attempted seven shots, putting five on target.
- Goalkeeper Abigail Bowie made seven saves, but falls to 3-8 with the loss.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Setters played stellar defense protecting the goal with 17 saves compared to the Purple Knights 9.
- Pace's offensive aggressiveness helped out in the two overtime periods, as the Setters outshot St. Michael's, 4-3.

NE-10 PLAY ROLLS ON
- Pace travels to Garden City, N.Y. to play No. 10 Adelphi University in an NE-10 contest on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
- Pace will then host Assumption College on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
