GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Pace University field hockey team could not hang on to a second-half lead on Tuesday, falling to nationally-ranked No. 10 Adelphi University, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action at Motamed Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore
Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) pushed one past the keeper off a penalty corner, finishing a pass from freshman
Louisa Wegener (Hamburg, Germany/Wilhelm Gymnasium) in the 38th minute to put Pace on top early in the second half.
- Emily Power's put-back shot in the 47th minute tied the game for the 10th-ranked Panthers.
- With less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, Adelphi's Elizabeth Mercuri tipped in a high pass from in front of the cage to net the eventual game-winner for the Panthers.
PACE LEADERS
- Sanossian netted her fifth goal of the season after trying four shots and putting three on net.
- Wegener assisted Sanossian on the early second-half goal for the first point of the defender's career.
- Junior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) has now gone two games in a row with double-digit saves, rejecting 10 shots Tuesday evening.

- Power and Mercuri each scored a goal for Adelphi in the second half.
- Jamie Aherns assisted Mercuri on the game-winning goal.
- Goalkeeper Amanda Gargiulo made two saves in the win.

NE-10 PLAY ROLLS ON
- Pace will host Assumption College on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
- The Setters will then invite non-conference opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas College to Pleasantville on Monday, Oct. 17, for a scheduled 4 p.m. start.
