PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's volleyball battled hard to force five sets against Bentley University on Saturday, but ended up dropping a tight 3-2 decision to the Falcons in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- Bentley took an early 6-1 lead over the Setters.
- Pace scored the next four points to bring the game within one, 6-5.
- After going back and forth for much of the set, the Falcons used a late four-point run to take a late 23-17 lead, and needed just two of the next five points to claim a 25-20 win to open the match.
SET 2
- Back to back kills from Bentley gave the Falcons an early advantage in the second frame before a kill by freshman
Samantha Nidini (Houston, TX/Clearlake) tied the game at 4-4.
- Trailing 7-6, the Setters went on a four-point stretch to take a 10-7 advantage, but the Falcons took the next five to take the lead back at 12-10.
- A later run of five straight points gave Pace a comfortable 20-14 lead, but Bentley fought back with five-of-six to get within two.
- The Setters got one back, but Bentley took the next three to tie it up at 22-22.
- Kills by freshman
Maria Snelling (University Heights, OH/Gilmour Academy) and Nidini helped Pace earn the next three points and tie the match with a 25-22 win.
SET 3
- The two NE-10 foes traded three-point runs early in the third set, leaving Pace on top, 7-6.
- The game was later tied at 19 apiece, but Bentley took five in a row to force set point.
- Pace kept the set going after an attack error by the Falcons, but Bentley snagged the final point to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-20 win.
SET 4
- The Falcons seemed to be in full control of the fourth game after running out to a quick 5-1 lead.
- Pace quickly got back into it and tied it up at 7-7 after scoring four points in a row.
- A five-point stretch later pushed the Setters out to an 18-11 lead.
- After Bentley scored two straight points, the Setters tallied the next seven to close out the game with a big 25-13 win to force the deciding fifth set.
SET 5
- The Setters kept the momentum rolling with a 4-1 lead to start the final frame.
- Bentley took three in a row to tie it up, but Pace took the next two to regain the lead.
- Another three-point run for the Falcons gave them a 7-6 advantage, but Pace responded with three of its own to go up, 9-7, and forced Bentley to call a timeout.
- The Falcons quickly tied the game, but the Setters once again took a two-point lead at 11-9.
- The Falcons tied it up once again with the next two, but an attack error put Pace back in the lead, 12-11.
- Bentley found a late rhythm, and managed to take the final four points of the set to pick up a 15-12 win and earn a 3-2 victory on the afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore
Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) led all players with 18 kills and 25 digs on the afternoon.
- Nidini also had a double-double with 45 assists and 17 digs.
- Sophomore
Kathleen Benson (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) totaled 11 kills and a team-high four blocks.
- Senior
Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, FL/Miami Palmetto/Palm Beach State College) and junior
Amy Vicic (Surrey, British Columbia/Earl Marriott) each picked up 17 digs.
- In just two sets, junior
Colette Clarke (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) totaled three blocks and a pair of kills.
- Junior
Haley Kain (Huntersville, NC/William Amous Hough) had three aces and 11 digs in four sets.
- Freshman
Maria Snelling (University Heights, OH/Gilmour Academy) came off the bench to total seven kills, a block and a team-high .333 hitting percentage.

- The Setters get an extended break from match play before taking to the road to visit Merrimack College on Friday, Oct. 28. The Northeast-10 Conference contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
