PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University field hockey team faced a tough Northeast-10 Conference opponent at home on Wednesday, falling to No. 7 LIU Post by a score of 3-1 at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LIU Post's Emily Miller scored the game's first goal in the 28th minute off a feed from Alyssa Lopresti to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
- The Setters had a penalty corner opportunity as time expired in the first half, and ended up with a penalty stroke opportunity at the end of it. Sophomore
Jenna Sanossian (Miller Place, NY/Rocky Point) fired to the top-left corner of the cage and past the keeper to tie the game heading into the break.
- In the 41st minute, Miller scored again from the left side of the cage to make it 2-1 for the seventh-ranked Pioneers.
- Miller finished the hat trick in the 49th minute after Tarryn Morris hit her with a pass on a breakaway to give LIU Post a 3-1 advantage.
PACE LEADERS
- Sanossian's penalty stroke goal was her sixth score of the season. She led all Setters with five shots, including four on goal.
- Sophomore
Paige Predmore (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) fired two shots in the game, putting one on net.
- Junior goalkeeper
Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) stopped seven shots in the game, but falls to 7-8 with the defeat.
PIONEER STATS
- Emily Miller scored all three goals for the Pioneers and totaled seven shots on the afternoon.
- Lopresti and Morris each tallied an assist.
- Julie Gysels helped the defense with a defensive save.
- Goalkeeper Ericka Parks improves to 10-3 after making three saves.
