Rose Nets Two as Pace Field Hockey Blanks St. Thomas Aquinas

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Halley Rose (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin) scored twice on Monday to lead the Pace University field hockey team to a 2-0 shutout of Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) in non-conference action at Peter X. Finnerty Field. Rose also scored twice in the last matchup between the Setters and Spartans, a 4-0 shutout in Sparkill, N.Y. for Pace back on Sept. 20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the eighth minute of the game, freshman Louisa Wegener (Hamburg, Germany/Wilhelm Gymnasium) sent in a penalty corner to Rose at the top of the circle, leaving her open to fire one past the keeper to put the Setters up, 1-0.
- Rose struck again in the 48th minute, one-timing a goal-line pass from freshman Madison McGowan (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) into the cage to make it a 2-0 lead for the Setters.
 
PACE LEADERS
- Rose's two goals lift her season total to seven on the season. She led all players with three shots in the game.
- Wegener now has assists in three straight games.
- McGowan's assist was her second of the year.
- Junior goalkeeper Lesly Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT/Stamford) improved to 7-7 on the year, making one save in the winning effort.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Corrine Nocera (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) took over for the final 14:40 and made a pair of stops.
 
GREYHOUND STATS
- Starting goalie Jessica Stewart stopped four shots, but falls to 1-11 on the year.
- Alexandra Vippolis put both of her shot attempts on goal.

COMING UP NEXT
- The Setters will look to avenge an early season loss on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they host No. 5 LIU Post in Northeast-10 Conference action at Finnerty Field. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
