PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) set a career-high in blocks, but it was not enough as the Pace University women's basketball team fell to the Northeast-10 Conference's Northeast Division leader Bentley University by a score of 68-54 in Wednesday evening's matchup at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters fall to 10-9 overall, and 5-6 in NE-10 contests, while the Falcons improve to 14-3 on the year and 8-3 in conference play.
Dodge registered a game-best and career-high with nine blocks, while senior forward
Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) rejected two. Dodge recorded her previous high of seven blocks on Dec. 18, 2015 against Concordia University, when she also contributed 12 points and four rebounds. The Setters blocked 12 shots as a team, tallying their highest total since Jan. 8, 2004, when they also blocked 12 shots against Franklin Pierce University.
The Setters started off playing well early on, as Sher knocked down a jumper for the first basket at the 8:19 mark. Later in the quarter, Dodge drained a jumper in the paint to give the Setters a 10-7 lead with 2:46 left in the period. Freshman
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) finished a layup with 24 seconds remaining in the frame and Pace led 18-12 until Bentley's Amy McConnell made a three with seconds to go.
The Setters opened the second quarter with sophomore
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) draining a three, which led to a 14-7 run, leaving the Setters ahead, 35-22, with 4:47 left until the break. The run was not enough, as Bentley went on a 15-0 stretch to take a 37-35 lead heading into halftime.
The Falcons advanced their lead in the third quarter by outscoring the Setters, 18-11, as Bentley went ahead 55-46. The fourth period was not much different, as Pace was outscored, 13-8, falling by the final score of 68-54.
Dodge added 13 points and three rebounds to her nine blocks on the evening. Rubin led the Setters with 14 points and graduate student
Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson / Coppin State) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and added six points.
Bentley's Lauren Green registered a game-best 15 points, while Megan Lewis finished with seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23, when they visit Assumption College for an NE-10 matchup in Worcester, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
