Baseball Blasts Ten Hits to Defeat Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Sophomore John Kukura went 3-5 with a pair of RBI's to help the Setters defeat non-conference Dominican on Thursday. Following the win, Pace advances to 18-17 while Dominican falls to 19-22.

Pace got on the board in the top of the first inning. Paul Piccolino blasted a leadoff single through the right side of the infield that was followed by a Domenick Luongo walk. After a fielder's choice gave the Setters runners at the corners, Kukura belted an RBI-single to left to give Pace a 1-0 lead.

Junior Michael Forgione got the start on the mound and set the Chargers down in order in the first inning, adding a strikeout. Then in the second, he allowed back-to-back walks before forcing three straight outs to retire the side. Forgione surrendered his first hit of the game in the third frame, but buckled down to force a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning.

Senior Tom McIntosh entered in relief of Forgione in the fourth and held the Chargers hitless in his only inning of work, adding a strikeout.

Pace added another tally in the fifth inning when Piccolino once again led off the inning with a single. After a Luongo walk and a defensive error, the Setters had the bases loaded. Kukura again came through, this time sending an RBI-single through the left side of the infield to make the score 2-0.

Sophomore Anthony Rocco entered in the fifth and tossed a pair of outs, while surrendering a pair of walks. Freshman Anthony Sigismondi entered to pitch with two outs and men on second and third. After allowing a walk to load the bases, he forced a lineout to end the Charger threat. Sigismondi stayed in the game to pitch in the sixth and tossed a perfect inning, forcing two groundouts and a strikeout.

Senior Jonathan Silva entered the game to toss in the seventh inning and retired Dominican in order after forcing a groundout and a pair of fly-outs.

The Setters did most of their damage in the top of the eighth inning when they added a quartet of runs. Freshman Michael Gulino belted a single to left field, and stole second base. Pace scored a run and had runners on first and second after a pair of errors. Luongo took the plate next and crushed an RBI-double to left field. After senior Tom Midolo also cranked an RBI-double during the next at bat, Pace had a 6-0 lead over the Chargers.

Freshman Anthony Criscione entered in the top half of the eighth to pitch for Pace. He allowed one single, but prevented any runners from scoring. Criscione remained in the game for the ninth inning and allowed a leadoff walk that was followed by a double. However, he responded with a pair of outs to end the game.

Kukura led the Setters at the dish, going 3-5 with a pair of RBIs. Midolo went 1-5 with two RBIs while Luongo went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Piccolino went 2-5 with three runs scored.

Forgione tossed three innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs while fanning a pair. McIntosh (1-0) tossed one inning, holding the Chargers hitless while adding a strikeout. Rocco tossed two third innings and allowed no hits or walks while Sigismondi hurled 1.1 innings and allowed no hits while adding one K. Silva tossed a perfect inning, and Criscione pitched the game's final two innings, surrendering no runs and two hits while fanning a pair.

Pace returns to the field on Friday, May 1st when they host Le Moyne on the field at SUNY Purchase. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
