Gellos Walk-Off Homerun Lifts Softball to Extra Inning Win Over Saint Rose

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.- Senior Natalie Gellos blasted a two-out, two-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Setters to 6-5 win over the Saint Rose Golden Knights in a Northeast-10 Southwest Division game. The Setters improve to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in the NE-10 SW Division, while the Golden Knights fall to 8-13 overall and 3-5 in division play.
 
The Setters got on the board in the opening inning as Jeane Drury reached second on a two-base error. Drury moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Gellos bunt single. Pace extended their lead in the second as Hana Wright launched a solo homerun to push the Setter lead to 2-0. For Wright, the homerun marked her 20th of her career, moving her into a tie for second place with Lauren Bell (2009-12).
 
The Golden Knights rallied in the fourth as they scored four runs to jump in front 4-2. Pace rallied in the fifth as Drury led off with a double and scored on a Gellos single, with Gellos moving to second on the throw. Ashley Lew tied it at four with a single to score Gellos and force extra innings.
 
Saint Rose pushed across a run in the eighth to back in the lead at 5-4. The Setters rallied with two outs as Larissa Labs reached on an infield single. Gellos came through for the Setters as she blasted the game-winning homerun to give Pace the walk-off victory.
 
Gellos has a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Labs went 2-for-5, while Wright went 2-for-2 for Pace. On the mound, starter Caitlin McCann went the 3 2/3 inning, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out one. Reliever Kaitlynn Nelson came on in relief, going the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out two.
 
The Setters return to action as they travel to Adelphi University on Tuesday, April 7 for a NE-10 SW Division game at 4 pm.
