BRIDGEPORT, Conn. –
Michael Sweeney tossed six solid innings in a loss against Bridgeport on Sunday evening. With the loss, Pace falls to 17-16 while the Knights advance to 19-21.
The Setters jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second inning. After back-to-back strikeouts,
Domenick Luongo reached first base on a fielding error by the left fielder. After advancing to second on the error, he was driven in on a single by
Paul Piccolino during the next at bat.
Sweeney took the mound and tossed the game's first six innings. He set the Knights down in order during the fourth to help Pace maintain the lead. Bridgeport added a run in both the second and the seventh inning to eventually win the contest, 2-1.
Piccolino went 2-3 with the team's only RBI while
Tom Midolo and
Nick LoBello each went 1-4.
Michael Gulino went 1-1 while Luongo went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Sweeney was solid on the mound for the Setters. He tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Michael Forgione tossed one thirds innings of relief, surrendering one earned run on two hits with one strikeout.
Jake Amoroso pitched two thirds innings of relief, allowing no runs on one hit while
Ryan Aquino was perfect in the game's final inning.
The Setters return to the diamond on Tuesday when they square off with New Haven in a crucial NE-10 Southwest divisional matchup. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
