Softball Comes Up Short to Le Moyne

BRIARCLIFF, NY- The Setters came up short to Le Moyne 11-10 in a Northeast-10 Southwest Division game. Pace falls to 9-4 and 1-1 in the SW Division, while the Dolphins improve to 7-2 and 1-0 in division play.
 
Le Moyne struck first with a pair of homeruns in the first inning to take an early lead. The Setters answered in the top of the third with a pair of runs. Jeane Drury drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a Larissa Labs single. Natalie Gellos drove in the first Pace run of the game with a single, while Surina Sandhu tied the game at 2-2 with a run scoring base hit.
 
The Dolphins retook the lead with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to push ahead 7-2. Pace answered with a seven-spot in the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game. The Setters loaded the bases with one out as Labs drove in the first run of the inning for Pace. Gellos followed with a sacrifice fly for the second out of the inning, while Ashley Lew drew a walk as the Setters pulled to within 7-5. Hana Wright put the Setters in the lead as she blasted a grand slam homerun to left to put Pace up 9-7.
 
Le Moyne cut the Pace lead in half with a run in the sixth but the Setters answered in the seventh. Drury led off the inning with a single and scored on a Labs triple to center. The Dolphins rallied in the bottom of the seventh as they plated three runs to take the first game of the weekend series.
 
For the Setters, Drury went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Labs went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Caitlin McCann started, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, while striking out one. Kaitlynn Nelson tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, while striking out three to fall to 2-3 on the season.
 
The Setters and the Dolphins cap their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 at noon on the Pace Briarcliff campus.
