BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.-
Hana Wright had a key two-run double in the opening inning as the Setters opened up Northeast-10 Southwest Division play with a 5-2 win over the Southern Connecticut Owls. The Setters improve to 9-2 on the season and 1-0 in the NE-10 SW Division, while the Owls fall to 4-8 and 0-1 in division play.

Shelby Yung drew a walk and moved to third as
Larissa Labs reached base on an error
. Jeane Drury singled in Yung for the first run of the game. Pace successfully pulled off the delayed double steals as Labs scored to make it 2-0

Pace wasn't finished in the inning as
Natalie Gellos walked and
Surina Sandhu singled to load up the bases.
Ashley Lew drew a walk to force in Drury with the third run, while Wright ripped a ground-rule double to drive in two more runs.

The Owls chipped away with a run in the third and the fifth and loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh. Reliever
Kaitlynn Nelson closed the door, forcing a groundout for the final out of the game as she earned her first save of the season.

Starter
Caitlin McCann (4-1) tossed five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and six hits, while recording one strikeout. Nelson pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and registering a pair of strikeouts. Drury (2-for-3) and Sandhu (2-for-4) led the Setter offense.

The Setters return to action as they host Caldwell University on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:30 pm on the Pace Briarcliff Campus.
