PURCHASE, NY–
Mike Sweeney tossed six inning as the Pace Baseball down the Nyack Warriors 7-1 in non-conference play.
The Setters improve to 5-9 overall, while the Warriors fall to 3-13 on the season.
Pace got on the board early as
Tyler Bivona drove in the first Setters run of the game in the second inning. The Setters pushed ahead to 2-0 following a
Tom Midolo sac fly in the second inning.
Nyack got a run back in the sixth but the Setters broke the game open with five runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Pace loaded the bases in the sixth as Midolo and
Michael Gulino singled, while
Paul Piccolino reached on an error. Bivona came through with a key hit as he singled to score Midolo and Gulino.
In the seventh, the Setters took advantage of three Nyack errors tack on three runs.
John Kukura had a key hit in the inning with a run scoring single.
On the mound, Sweeney (1-0) tossed six innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out eight.
Ryan Aquino (two innings) and
Anthony Criscione (one inning) combined to toss three scoreless innings in relief, as Aquino posted one strikeout and Criscione registered two.
The Setters travel to Adelphi on Wednesday. March 24 for the Northeast-10 SW Division Opener at 3:30 pm.
