CLERMONT, FL- The Setters bounced back with a pair of wins as they swept the Molloy College Lions 7-2 and 3-1 on Day 4 of the Florida Trip. Pace improves to 6-2 overall, while Molloy falls to 4-10 on the season.
In the opener, the Setters struck first as
Shelby Yung and
Larissa Labs drew walks to start the game. With two outs,
Surina Sandhu singled in Yung to give Pace the early lead. Labs came around to score from second base on a failed pickoff attempt for a 2-0 lead.
Molloy tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to even the game at 2-2. The Setters rallied in the bottom of the frame as
Jeane Drury singled and Sandhu drew a walk.
Ashley Lew broke the tie with a single to score Drury and moved to second on the throw. Pinch hitter
Amanda Limon drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for pinch hitter
Haley Hernandez to extend the lead with a grand slam homerun.
Lew went 4-for-4 in the game, while
Victoria Quinones went 2-for-3 in the game. On the hill,
Kaitlynn Nelson started, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three.
Jaclyn Flores earned the win in relief, improving her record to 2-0, as she tossed the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.
In the second game, the Setters again got on the board first as they scored in the third inning. Yung singled with one out, while Drury doubled to put runners in scoring position.
Natalie Gellos and Sandhu drew back-to-back walks to force in the first run of the game.
Pace added to their lead in the fourth as
Hana Wright led off the inning with a solo homerun to give the Setters a 2-0 lead. The Setters weren't finished in the inning as Quinones drew a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Yung singled and stole second to put runners at second and third. Quinones scored on the ensuing batter on an error to push the Setter lead to 3-0.
Flores again came on in relief to close the score to earn her first collegiate save.
Caitlin McCann got the start, improving to 2-1 on the season as she tossed 5+ innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out one. Flores pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Setters wrap up their Florida road trip on Wednesday, March 18 when they will face Sioux Falls at 9 am and Minnesota Duluth at 11 am. Â
