Softball Drops Pair of Extra-Inning Games on Day 3 of Florida Trip

CLERMONT, FL- The Setters dropped their first games of the season as they fell in a pair of one-run extra-inning games on Day 3 of their Florida swing. Pace fell in the opener to Wayne St. 4-3 in eight innings and fell to Dominican 4-3 in eighth.

 In the opener, the game was scoreless through four innings of play but Wayne St. broke through with three runs in the fifth. The Setters answered in the top of the sixth as Tara Bernstein led off with a single and scored on a Shelby Yung two-run homerun. Pace wasn't finished in the frame as pinch hitter Amanda Limon doubled to left-center. Jeane Drury tied the game with a single down the right field line. The game went into extra inning as Wayne St. pushed across a run in the eighth.

On the hill, Kaitlynn Nelson started, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Caitlin McCann came on in relief, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits to fall to 1-1 on the season.

In the second game, the Setters got on the board first with three runs in the third inning. Bernstein and Yung drew back to back two-out walks, while Larissa Labs loaded the bases as she reached base on an error. Bernstein scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch, while Drury drove in two more with a single to right.

Dominican rallied in the sixth as they tied the game with three runs in the frame. The game went into extra-innings where the Chargers pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.

On the mound for the Setters, Jaclyn Flores started, going five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out one. McCann came on for two innings in relief, allowing three unearned runs, allowing three hits and fanning two. Nelson allowed one unearned run in the eighth on one hit, while striking out two to fall to 1-1 on the season.

The Setters continue their Florida road trip on Tuesday, March 17 when they will face Molloy in  a doubleheader at 9 am.
