SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Setters dropped a Northeast-10 matchup against American International by a final score of 54-48. With the loss, Pace falls to 11-12, 5-10 NE-10 while the Yellow Jackets advance to 13-11, 8-8 in conference play.
Freshman
Gabriella Rubin got the scoring started for Pace when she rattled in a jumper at the 19:16 mark to give the Setters a two point lead. Roughly two minutes later, senior
Jaclyn Oskam put in a pair of baskets, one from downtown, to advance the score to 7-5. Midway through the half, sophomore
Alexa Dietrich connected on a jumper to spark a 7-2 run that included a
Margo Hackett triple. Sophomore
Kirsten Dodge added a pair of layups down the stretch, but the Setters trailed by one point at the break.
The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of buckets in the opening two minutes of the second half, but junior
Yuni Sher halted the rally with a layup that cut the deficit to just two points. With 11:18 remaining in the game, Oskam again splashed a three that made the score 39-32 in favor of American International. After falling behind by double digits, Hackett connected from deep to attempt to spark the comeback for Pace. The three-pointer was quickly followed by a pair of baskets as
Brianna Harris and Hackett each scored buckets. Dodge added a trio of free throws late in the game, but the Setters were unable to climb back ahead and fell to the Yellow Jackets, 54-48.
Dodge led the Setters with 11 points while pulling down nine rebounds and rejecting three shots. Oskam contributed nine points with four rebounds and three assists while Hackett scored eight points and grabbed four boards.
The Setters return to the court when they head to Albany, N.Y. for a matchup against the College of Saint Rose.
