PLEASANTVILLE, NY-
Kyle Pearson netted a game-high 22 points as the Setters fell to #25 Southern Connecticut St. Owls 104-74 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Setters fall to 5-21 overall and 1-17 in the NE-10, while the Owls improve to 21-5 and 15-3 in conference play.
A tight first half the featured 11 lead changes and four ties over the first 20 minutes of play. The Setters held their largest lead of the game at the 14:37 mark at 13-5 behind early triples by
Mike Demello and
Shelton Mickell. The Owls rallied to take a one-point lead but the Setters battled back to retake a four point lead with 7:14 left in the half following a Demello lay-up.
Pace extended their lead to five points behind a Demello trifecta at the 4:59 mark and the score remained within three points the rest of the half. The Setters hit free throws in the final two minutes of play to keep a slim advantage but a late three-point play by the Owls right before halftime gave Southern Connecticut a 43-42 at the break. The Owls extended their halftime lead as they opened the second half, scoring 22 of the first 26 points and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
For Pace, Pearson led the way with 22 points along with five rebounds. Mickell chipped in 14 points, six boards and five assists, while Demello posted 13 points (3-for-6 from downtown) along with four rebounds and three assists.
Victor Jusino added 10 points and three boards, while
Bryan Rivers finished with eight points and six assists.
The Setters return home on Saturday, February 21 when they take on the Adelphi University Panthers in an NE-10 match-up at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 5:30 pm.
