MELBOURNE, FL – The Setters lost a doubleheader to Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon, falling 9-0 in the opener and 20-1 in the nightcap.
Pace falls to 0-3 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 8-0 in 2015.
In the opener, Florida Tech scored three runs in the first, four in the fourth and added two in the seventh inning. The Setters were limited to six hits in Game 1 as freshman Michael Gulino went 2-for-3 and Brett Bittiger went 2-for-2 with a double.
On the hill, Robert Rizzitelli tossed three innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, falling to 0-1 on the season. Dylan Mouzakes came on in relief, going four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and struck out five. Anthony Rocco tossed one scoreless inning, striking out one.
In the nightcap, Pace jumped out to an early lead as Andrew Coffey led off the game with an infield single. Sophomore John Kukura drove in the lone Setter run of the afternoon with a double to left-center. The Panthers took the lead in the first with four runs, while adding five in the second and 11 in the fourth.
On the mound. Tim Deegan fell to 0-1 as he allowed nine runs on 10 hits in the game. Pace was limited to five hits in the nightcap, as Coffey went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Pace and Florida Tech wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon with a single game starting at 12 pm.
