Dodge Ties Career-High with Seven Blocks in Win Over Concordia

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by six in the second half, junior Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) tied a career-best mark of seven blocks to help lead the Setters to a win over non-conference Concordia College. Following the victory, Pace advanced to 6-4 while the Clippers drop to 3-7.
 
After over two minutes of scoreless basketball, Dodge banked in a basket to put Pace on the board. Concordia added a bucket of their own before sophomore Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) connected on a pair of layups, one of which came following a steal that she took coast-to-coast. The Clippers cut the deficit to two, but the Setters netted back-to-back triples to pull ahead in the first. Senior Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson / Coppin State) drilled the first with Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) connecting from downtown 1:09 later. Freshman Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) added a basket late in the first while Dodge hit a pair of free throws, giving the Setters a 16-8 lead after one.
 
Maynard kicked off the scoring in the second quarter. After a miss, senior Rachel Dortch (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) grabbed an offensive board to keep the possession alive. Seconds later, Rosalbo found Maynard underneath for an easy layup. Dortch banked in a basket of her own just minutes later to give Pace a nine point advantage. From 6:17 to 2:07 Pace went on a run of 13 straight points. Oskam and Rosalbo added back-to-back layups before sophomore Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) sunk a pair of free throws. Rosalbo splashed a deep ball that was followed by consecutive Dodge layups. After Concordia added a pair of late baskets, the Setters took a 35-19 advantage into the locker room.
 
The Setters outshot the Clippers in every facet of the game in the first half. Pace was perfect at the line (4-4) and drained 42.9% (3-7) from distance. Pace also held an advantage in field goal percentage, hitting 41.2% (14-34) to Concordia's 27.6% (8-29).
 
Rosalbo led the way with nine points in the first half, adding three assists and three steals. Dodge chipped in eight points with a block while Rubin added four points and three assists.
 
The second half brought more of the same as Rubin connected from distance just 16 seconds into the period. Then, at the 8:45 mark, Pace went on a run of 11 straight points. Rosalbo hit a layup assisted by Dodge to spark the rally before Rubin once again drilled a trey. Senior Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) hit back to back layups before Dodge capped off the rally with a layup assisted by Rubin. Maynard added another deep ball late in the quarter with Dodge sinking another layup. Dodge was a defensive specialist in the third, rejecting four shots.  
 
Pace begin the scoring in the final frame as well as freshman Brianna Nickson (Haledon, NJ/Passaic County Technical) banked in a layup on an assist by Rubin. With 5:07 remaining in the game, the Setters added four points on consecutive jumpers from Maynard and Rosalbo to pull ahead by 25. Oskam added a layup late in the game to help the Setters grab a 62-40 win over Concordia.
 
The Setters were fantastic defensively, surrendering no more than 11 points in any quarter. They held the opponent to just 23.2% (13-56) shooting, 17.6% (3-17) from downtown.
 
Dodge added 12 points and four rebounds to her career-best seven blocks. Rosalbo led the Setters in scoring with 13 points, adding four assists and four steals. Maynard scored 10 points with eight boards and four assists while Rubin added 10 as well to go along with a team-best five assists. Oskam registered a team-best 12 rebounds, adding seven points. Sher pitched in 10 boards with four points and three assists.
 
Pace is back in action on Sunday, December 20th when they welcome Assumption College to the Goldstein Fitness Center for a non-conference showdown. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
