PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard
Gabriella Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led all scorers with 17 points, but it was not enough as Pace University women's basketball team fell to Assumption College, 57-47, in a non-conference game on Sunday at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters record falls to 6-5, while the Greyhounds advance to 8-2.
The Setters played Assumption tough in the first quarter, with both teams struggling to score. The period ended with a score of 9-9. The Greyhounds then took control in the second quarter to take a double-digit advantage. Rubin managed to cut the deficit back down to nine with a layup at the 13-second mark to close out the half trailing, 25-16.
Junior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) sparked a 9-2 run with two layups to begin the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 27-26. Dodge finished a layup with 59 seconds left to keep the Setters within three, but Assumptions Jaclyn Storey scored twice before the end of the period to give the Greyhounds a 40-33 edge heading into the fourth.
Rubin hit a three with 7:05 left in the fourth quarter to cut into Assumption's lead, getting back within four at 44-40. The Setters fought hard, but were unable to overcome the Greyhounds' 17 fourth-quarter points, falling by 10 in Sunday's matchup.
Rubin added three assists and three rebounds to her game-high 17 points, while Dodge finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. Sophomore guard
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) contributed nine points and five boards.
Assumption's Storey finished with a team-high 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds on Sunday. Morgan O'Donnell came off the bench to grab a team-best nine rebounds.
The Setters return to action Thursday Dec. 31, when they host non-conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 12 p.m.
