PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) led all scorers with 19 points in a 74-65 win over New York Institute of Technology to help the Pace University women's basketball team finish 2-0 in the NE-10/ECC Challenge. The win brings the Setters to 2-0, while NYIT falls to 2-3.
The Setters took control early as senior
Jaclyn Oskam (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central / Quinnipiac University) knocked down a three at the 8:56 mark in the first period Oskam's triple began a trend of deep balls as sophomore Gabrielle Rubin hit a three before freshmen
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) connected from deep on a pair of shots. Late in the first quarter, Oskam buried her second triple with four seconds remaining to give the Setters a 21-11 lead.
Picking up where she left off, Oskam made a corner jumper assisted by Gabrielle Rubin just 10 seconds into the second period As the half began to come to a close,
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College) scored five points in the last 2:10 with a jumper assisted by Oskam and a three assisted by
Stefanie Svoboda (Ossining, NY/Ossining). Junior
Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) capped off the late rally with a layup that saw the Setters take a 43-30 lead into the break.
Oskam got the scoring started in the third period as well. Just 37 seconds into the frame, she splashed another deep ball on an assist by sophomore
Geena Rosalbo (Staten Island, NY/Curtis). NYIT played tough, trading baskets throughout the period until
Christina Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic / Iona College)'s layup with 41 seconds left in the third gave the Setters a 14 point lead.
The 14 point deficit did not shy NYIT from fighting back as they narrowed the gap to as little as six with 1:51 remaining in regulation. Gabrielle Rubin sunk the dagger with 58 seconds remaining in the game as she knocked down the last three of her 11 points.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 when they open up Northeast-10 play. They will welcome the Le Moyne College Dolphins to the Goldstein Fitness Center for a 1:30 p.m. showdown.
